POP-Up Roubaix

POP-Up Roubaix is a platform that connects community needs with students ideas to enable community-led revitalization.

Using service design to facilitate relationships between residents of Roubaix, France, and neighboring students.

Role: Service Designer

Collaborators: Reid Henkel and Kelly L. Anderson

Project Selected for a design residency at MAD In Situ in Belgium, Brussels by Lille Design For Change Competition.

We researched what everyday life is like in Roubaix, France. Based on our bottom-up philosophy, we determined that the residents themselves  are the greatest assets in identifying public services needed, complemented by neighboring students capable of providing the needed services as business opportunities.  This project was selected for further development by the Lille Design for Change competition leading to the BY|FOR Anneessens project.

Through workshops and interviews the team identified challenges  for the revitalization of Roubaix. Public spaces are underutilized and the fragmented population has limited access to public services. By reimagining public spaces and incubating student-led services for the community, Pop-Up Roubaix will enable students to prototype academic projects in real life scenarios while providing universal access to services for the local residents.
