A prototype was planned and executed to learn quickly what were the components that were working and those that weren’t. To run this prototype, a small cross-departmental team was pulled together. This prototype involved testing educational materials, roles, events, and a prototype of the Spanish website.

By collaborating with staff from across the institution we identified that If MSK wants to ensure that it is strategically positioned by 2030, then it needs to create and implement new outreach models today that redefines how it engages with growing populations. Furthermore, there is an opportunity to create a collaborative internal to MSK — to help align staff and CBOs under the same mission. Through workshops and other design-led activities we crafted the MSK Community Access program along with the organizational structure to support it, and the materials to support the testing.

MSK Community Access

Through ongoing partnerships, MSK Community Access helps the hospital continuously learn how to engage with the Hispanic population, while building brand loyalty over time.

MSK’s outreach initiatives tend to be siloed by department or committee, hindering coordination and transparency of outreach efforts. Our team utilized participatory design methods to engage staff, community-based organizations and their members. This allowed us to gain insights into both MSK’s organizational needs as well as the community we are aiming to serve. Ultimately, these findings were presented back to the hospital through a set of clear design tactics, service models and a roadmap for testing and scaling.

Design Principles were crafted to guide our team’s thinking thorough concept development.
